Canada tries to woo more Chinese tourists

Canada’s tourism industry is seeking to attract more Chinese tourists by providing quality products, said Greg Klassen, senior vice president for Marketing Strategy and Communications at the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC).
Canada has launched a “Say Hello to Canada” campaign earlier this year to introduce Canada to Chinese, Klassen told Xinhua during an interview on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Approved Destination Status (ADS) agreement between China and Canada.

Canada has begun a major advertising campaign to woo China’s big-spending travellers as the number of outbound tourists from the world’s most populous nation looks set to explode.
China estimates outbound travellers will rise to 100 million over the next decade, with the potential to generate an extra $300 million in tourism revenue for Canada by 2015, according to The Canadian Tourism Commission.

This past summer Canada joined a list of 130 nations to be granted approved destination status — ADS — from China.
Without a doubt, the announcement is a golden opportunity to lift sagging Canadian tourism numbers.
But destinations and tourism operators must be cautious in their growth estimates for a number of reasons.

With Canada having finally won approved-destination status for Chinese visitors, Canadian officials are moving on to building bridges to China at the highest levels.
Federal Minister of Small Business and Tourism Rob Moore is in Shanghai and Beijing this week leading a delegation

Chinese holiday makers will be allowed to travel to Canada on tourist visas from August 15th.
Tours to the north American country, famous for its picturesque “maple trees”, will charge around 30-thousand yuan per tourist. But the hefty cost isn’t cooling enthusiasm. Travel agents have more than a hundred tourists booked for the inaugural group tour.

Only a few weeks after finalizing its Approved Destination Status (ADS), Canada has already ranked the third most popular tourist destination among Chinese looking to travel abroad, according to a survey released Monday.
In a telephone poll of 1,080 people living in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the “Research Report on China’s Outbound Tourism Market” found Australia the most desired destination of prospective Chinese travelers, followed by Singapore and Canada.

Canada is rolling out the welcome mat for Chinese visitors now that it has secured its long awaited Approved Destination Status (ADS), but bargain-price trips won’t be among the offerings according to officials in the country’s tourism sector.

“Thousand Islands” of Canada and “Thousand Islands Lake” of China, both beautiful tourist attractions bearing identical names, joined hands across the ocean Sunday with the signing of a friendship and cooperation agreement.
